PART 2

After weeks of trial and error, and teaching myself how to sew through YouTube and online forums, I launched my Etsy shop. I always think of those who were my first customers 🙈 obviously, if I were to see the quality of those leggings today I would be so embarrassed. No tags and the leggings were made from uneven patterns I drew by hand on paper bags. If you were one of the first to believe in me, from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU. I am forever grateful for my first customers because even though I can only imagine what they thought of my sewing ability, everyone left me positive feedback and encouraged me to continue to grow. Before I knew it I had more orders than I could possibly keep up with. I took the money I had made and upgraded my $50 Craigslist sewing machine to a serger, and also invested in a high end sewing machine. All of a sudden I could make a pair of leggings in 5-10 minutes vs a half an hour. If I could give any piece of advice to a small shop owner, it would be to ALWAYS INVEST IN YOURSELF. Don't spend all the money on household items, put majority right back into your company and figure out what you can do to take your brand to the next level. I know many are struggling to stay on top financially, but I promise if you invest in yourself, bet on your success, you will double that investment if not more in the long run. As my business grew other small shops took my fabric selections as inspiration, and started offering similar or the same styles as mine, so it when then that I realized... if I wanted to be successful, I needed to create and print my own fabrics and make my leggings completely ONE OF A KIND... Which is really when the lightbulb and vision for Babalus became clear

PART 1

Hi everyone! My name is Lucy and I am the owner/only employee of Babalus 🖤 I started my company shortly after my daughter was born in March of 2016. After returning to my wine sales job, I realized I wanted to start a business that I could run from home, and would allow me to be closer to my daughter. Unfortunately, I had no idea how to sew, and no real hobbies with potential to turn into a business. So I did some brainstorming and thought.... if I could perfect one item, and make my designs the cutest and best quality products on the market I would be successful. I purchased a sewing machine off of Craigslist for $50, and a few yards of fabric and began teaching myself how to sew.... don't want to bore you so I will continue my story at a later time, but I want to start taking the time to introduce myself and THANK YOU for allowing me the freedom to watch my daughter grow and supporting my dreams...to be continued....
